Guy Lyon Playfair’s book This House is Haunted (wrt the Enfield poltergeist) is an excellent read and very convincing. I like your comparison of discounting paranormal evidence with discounting rape evidence.
However, I’ve come across a number of interviews with Mr Playfair where he expresses contempt for the Warrens and states that their input to the case was very negligible indeed. Compare this with Janet’s statements made around the time of the film and you will see a clear discrepancy. I was not aware of these prior to listening to your podcast and I can’t help suspecting a financial motivation, which to my mind counts as evidence against the veracity of the haunting.
There is a lot of stuff around that casts aspersions on the Warrens, though the Novella brothers, who worked with them for a while, certainly describe them as a nice old couple, though they are sceptical of the Warrens conclusions.
The whole thing is fascinating, keep up the good work.
We’ve done a few episodes on The Warrens now, and I sort of leave it up to the listeners to make up their own mind about them.
Whether they are the real deal or not, their cases make for some very interesting stories.
Thanks for listening.
